Suzanne's FAQ's - Q&A
By Suzanne Hall
What are the benefits of professional skin care treatments?
Skin care treatments performed by a licensed esthetician (skin care specialist)
such as myself can make a dramatic difference in the appearance of your complexion.
Roughened, sun-damaged skin can become smooth and more even in color and
tone. Acneic skin can be calmed and remarkably cleared and controlled.
And good skin can become great skin! As a skin care professional, I
am qualified to educate you about your skin and its care, as well as your
options for advanced treatments to improve signs of aging and sun-damage,
and to effect a healthy, glowing complexion. Since I am licensed by
the State of California, I can perform these hands-on services. My
customized spa facial treatment is as wonderfully relaxing as it is beneficial
for your skin's appearance. My acne facial treatment clears pores and
calms inflammation, includes education and proper product selection.
My advanced treatments include microdermabrasion smooths roughened, granular
skins and oily skins with blackheads. My new dermal rejuvination treatment
series transforms the appearance of sun-damaged and aging skin into skin
that looks luminous, glowing, younger, and healthy!
How often should I get a facial?
This is a question I hear frequently. How often you get a facial
(skin care treatment) depends upon several factors. If your skin has
been well maintained and protected from sun exposure and is relatively
clear and healthy in appearance, you'll want a treatment every four to six
weeks. In general, my clients who return within that four to
six-week period are the ones who see the most improvement in their skin.
Skin with acne may require more frequent visits initially in order to unclog
pores and determine the best combination of home-care products. Skin
with sun damage/aging issues may require a series of advanced treatments,
and my client will return in a week or two.
How are your skin care products superior to those sold by department
stores or drug stores?
It would be arrogant of me to say there are no products of value for
your skin sold by dept. stores, drug stores, or even your aunt selling cosmetics
from her car; however, they're sold to you by unlicensed individuals.
At best, their clerks or representatives are trained to sell one brand.
Licensed estheticians are introduced to their products through industry trade
avenues. We speak to the company educators or owners, ask questions,
study the ingredients, and compare the results before bringing them to you.
Our knowledge of skin physiology and hands-on experience qualifies us to
help you select the products best suited to you.I have the highest standards
for the products I offer; they must be safe, feel wonderful, and must fulfill
their promise.
I have acne and I'm over 30. Help!!
I CAN help! My clients see dramatic improvements with my Bion home
treatments. These products represent new advances in the treatment of acne,
including adult acne that often occurs on dry skin. They address the
3 main components of acneic conditions: bacteria, inflammation,
and build-up of dead skin cells. Call for an appointment for an acne
consultation and acne facial, and take home free samples of the Bion treatments.
You'll love your face again!
Are tanning booth tans a safe alternative to sun tanning?
NO! This is an outright lie promoted by many tanning parlors --
UV radiation is damaging regardless of its source! Tanning beds
age your skin prematurely and have been found responsible for melanoma, a
deadly form of skin cancer. In my skin care business I've talked with
several melanoma survivors, many of whom spent time in tanning booths!
There are some severe skin disorders that may benefit from UV exposure,
but this should be upon physician's orders only! My suggestion: take
advantage of the natural-looking self-tanners currently available.
Remember: According to the American Cancer Society, "a healthy tan
is the first sign of skin cancer."
What are antioxidants -- how can they help my skin?
Antioxidants applied to the skin surface help prevent skin damage and thereby
provide anti-aging benefits. As your skin's appearance improves through
regular skin care, it's essential to protect repaired tissue from new free
radical damage. All of my products that are sun protective and anti-aging
contain high concentrations of extremely potent antioxidants -- vitamin C,
vitamin E, alpha lipoic acid, green tea, and others.
I've heard a lot about vitamin C's benefits for the skin. Is it
really so great?
Vitamin C is a wonderful antioxidant, helping to prevent skin damage.
Early studies seemed to show that it reduced fine lines and helped produce
healthier skin; however, the latest research refutes those claims
According to a biochemist at Bion Topical Biochemistry, actual living tissue
biopsies showed what lab tests using petri dishes did not, that vitamin C
cannot penetrate past the most superficial skin layers and therefore cannot
effect skin repair .
